Simple Tips to Combat Heart Disease: Get Walking

Cardio is Key. In GET MOVING, I describe how to gently work up to an effective intensity and duration to achieve fat loss to treat your heart disease and hypertension. Find what you love and remember, slow progression is how to start. I will walk you through the steps. GET MOVING also details how to exercise safely if you already have been diagnosed with heart disease.

Start walking or biking, or swimming 10 minutes a day. That’s your start. It is a simple time commitment we all can make.
Keep the TV remote on a distant table so that every time you want to change the channel you have to get up and out of your chair.
Get a pedometer to count the steps you take in a day. Your goal is 10,000 steps a day. It sounds like a lot, I know, but remember… every little step counts.
Take the stairs instead of the elevator to burn more calories every day. Remember, fat loss is your goal.

BEFORE STARTING ANY VIGOROUS EXERCISE PROGRAM, YOU NEED TO GET CLEARANCE FROM YOUR DOCTOR. PLEASE START YOUR WALKING PROGRAM GENTLY WHILE WAITING FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT. SEE GET MOVING FOR SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS FOR YOUR SPECIFIC DISEASE.
